Brevard County is a small county on the eastern coast of Florida. It has a population of around 550,000. The county seat of Brevard County is Titusville which is located near the northern tip of the area.

Brevard County was established in 1894. Since that time, the boundaries have changed, but the name has remained the same. The county gained its name from Theodore Washington Brevard, who was an early resident of the area as well as a member of the Florida Cabinet as a Florida Comptroller.

One of the county’s claims to fame is the John F. Kennedy Space Center. Located across the Indian River from the mainland south of Titusville is the space center which were the base of the Apollo missions. Many visitors come to the area still to watch rocket launches and to learn about the history of the space center as well as that of NASA.

In addition to the millions of dollars brought in each year from tourism, the county is also home to a thriving agricultural industry. One of its main industries is cattle and horse ranching, and citrus is still being grown in the area as well. In addition, a quarter of the state’s blue crabs are produced in the county.

Brevard County is home as well to great natural beauty. U.S. Highway 1 takes travelers down the banks of the Indian River all the way through the county. It passes through scenic areas as well as through many unique towns where many families make their homes.
