About Gainesville FL

The city of Gainesville, Florida, is a metropolis located within two hours of Jacksonville, Tampa, and Orlando. The city, which has steadily increased in population since its beginning in 1853, was founded in order to place the seat of the county along the Florida Railroad, which at the time had not been built.

Since its founding, Gainesville has earned the reputation of being one of the best places to live in North America. The seasons are mild, and the landscape is lush. During the warm months, the temperature hovers between 70 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and the colder months bring an array of vibrant colors. Gainesville is a beautiful city nestled among a canopy of trees. Called a “Tree City” by the National Arbor Day Foundation, Gainesville boasts a wide array of vegetation from palms to maples and everything in between.

Although many of the iconic historical buildings were destroyed in the 1960s and after, a few beautiful Victorian buildings can be found in the city's Historic Districts. Efforts to revitalize and renew these areas have created beautiful areas to live and work. The area also features a bustling college community. One of the nation's largest universities, the University of Florida, resides in the city.

Gainesville is also a beloved hub of the arts. In addition to many museums, theaters, and art buildings, the city is the home of art festivals that bring artists from all over the country. The youthful culture that is sparked by the local university keeps Gainesville fresh and exciting. The atmosphere, climate, and economy all combine to make this city a true gem, and a great place to call home.
