About Sarasota FL

Located on the Gulf of Mexico, the stunning city of Sarasota, Florida, is one of the most sought after places to live. It attracts many families each year, and has even been home to celebrities such as Steven King. The white sands of its beaches, along with its incredible art scene, make this city a retreat for many.

Uniquely, the city of Sarasota not only extends over mainland Florida, but also comprises several small islands just off the coast as well. Bird Key, Lido Key, Siesta Key, Otter Key, Coon Key, and part of Bay Isle are within the city limits. Residents can take the John Ringling Causeway or the Siesta Drive bridge to reach these islands.

The history of the city is a vibrant story stretching back to the 1500s when Hernando de Soto, a Spanish Conquistador landed in the area and gave it its original name, ZaraSota. The name translated as the “Radiance of Soto.” Years later the area became the home of Fort Amistead. In the 1840s, more European settlers began inhabiting the area. In perhaps the most famous of eras in Sarasota history, the Ringling family, of the Ringling Brothers Circus, inhabited the area, operating their entertainment in the area and funding developments in the land.

The culture of entertainment continues in Sarasota today. The city is one of the biggest hubs for art in Florida. From Galas to theaters and everything in between, the city has it all.

Sarasota is also home to a large Amish and Mennonite community which adds charm and uniqueness to the already set-apart city.

Between the fantastic art culture, the abundant beaches, and the unique culture, Sarasota is an ideal place of residence for many walks of life. Whether you are looking to raise a family, or retire in a peaceful and beautiful community, Sarasota is the perfect place for you.
